Filmmakers Scott Hutcheson of VeryAware.com and AJ Meadows have set out on a journey to uncover the nasty truths behind the worlds most hated font: Comic Sans. The film, Comic Sans or The Most Hated Font in the World, originally conceived as a mockumentary about one designer who was absolutely in love with Comic Sans, has evolved into a serious (while seriously fun) documentary film. You can back the project for as little as $1 on their Kickstarter page: http://kck.st/da5XOE. Backers will receive rewards ranging from a personalized photo incorporating Comic Sans to dinner and a night on the town with the filmmakers following a local screening and a backer-moderated Q and A. Hutcheson and Meadows have in their body of work a previous documentary about the Sundance Film Festival entitled REDFORD SENT US.

Dave and Holly Combs, the creators of the ban comic sans campaign, have long held that a documentary film is the next logical step in the telling of the Comic Sans story and this project is a great way to make that happen. A brand new project from Dave and Holly Combs, the creators of ban comic sans, is in the works. The project is called BigTurnOff.org and like ban comic sans is also a social experiment of sorts, but has nothing to do with fonts. However, just as the ban comic sans project effectively questions the widespread inappropriate use of the font Comic Sans, BigTurnOff.org aims to question and examine the pervasiveness of digital media in our lives. The intent of the project is to organize a worldwide event for participants to take twenty four hours off from digital media, document, and share their experiences, um, digitally.

Connare TYPE Sticker Design

A long-overdue parody/homage sticker design of the Obama HOPE poster by Shepard Fairey is now available for download. An interesting connection between the Obama HOPE image and the original “ban comic sans” image is that both Shepard Fairey and I got into some trouble for using someone elses’ photo. I got in considerably less trouble, and Vincent Connare and I have patched things over since. Unfortunately, the Associated Press isn’t so forgiving. Download and print here.
